Jesse graduated on a Saturday and the following Monday he had surgery. He hurt his knee a few weeks prior while playing basketball with a rough crowd. He saw a doctor and his ACL was torn. The doctor said that he could go without having surgery on it but that the next time he injured his knee, his ACL would tear completely and he'd definitely need the surgery then. Since I wasn't done teaching for another three weeks we figured he would have some time to recouperate before we had to move and he started his new job, so we opted to go through with the suregery. He had ACL reconstruction which means they removed his ACL and replaced it with and ackeles tendon from a cadaver. He's recovering quite well and the physical therapist thinks he is ahead of schedule.
Anyway, it's not the ideal gift to recieve for your graduation but hopefully playing basketball that night was worth it! (That'll teach him to play with the gangsters!)
