There's a 45 minute block of time in our school day where we have English Language Development (ELD). ELD is when you get the entire grade level and sort them by their English ability; there's a beginning group, an intermediate group, and a challenge group. It's sort of like another Language Arts block, but the kids get to work on what they need most (reviewing letter sounds, reading, or writing, etc).
Well, during my first year of teaching I had about six students who went to the classroom next door for ELD. Everyday I would tell them to walk over to her class. After ELD was over Mrs. Foley, from the class next door, came over and told me that Michael tattled on Caleb for running to her classroom after I had told them not to. Caleb heard this and looked at Michael with a surprised yet disgusted look. He couldn't believe that Michael was telling on him. Caleb quickly told Mrs. Foley the reason why he ran.
"Mrs. Foley, I tried not to run. My feet were walking, but my shoes were running and so my feet couldn't help it!"
Mrs. Foley said she had to pretend she was sneezing because she couldn't keep a straight face or hold in her laughter.
This is why I love being a Kindergarten Teacher!!!
